Ciaran’s Top Tips for St. Patrick’s Day

As we’re such a multi-cultural company, it will come as no surprise that we’ve got ourselves an Irishman. In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, we unchained our CTO Ciaran Rooney from his computer long enough to give us his top tips on celebrating his national day right.

1. Take the day off

St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland, so it’s only right that you go the whole nine yards and spend the day away from work. Just call your boss, cough down the phone, and throw in a ‘fiddle-dee-dee’. They’ll understand.

2. Eat potatoes

Irish people love potatoes. There’s no denying it. Show your true colours, and boil up a batch of potatoes on St. Patrick’s Day. Nothing else; just potatoes. Enjoy the carbohydrates and nutrition they offer and bask in their simple beauty. Remember, it’s ‘poh-tay-tooes’, most commonly prefaced with a ‘fiddle-dee-dee’.ciaran

3. Watch the hurling

No, not the hurling happening in the gutter outside your local Irish pub, the All-Ireland Club Hurling championships, which are held annually on St. Patrick’s Day. Watch as Ireland’s top two hurling counties go to battle with funny sticks and a little ball for the glorious Tommy Moore Cup. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know the game, it’s the thought that counts.

Hannah’s Top St. Patrick’s Day Tip for Girls

She’s not Irish, but she is a girl at Skimlinks, and she’s got a hint for girls wanting to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day without having to guzzle Guinness.

Try the divine Ginger and Guinness cupcakes from Bittersweet Bakers in London, or whip up a batch of your own. Here’s a great recipe!
